Through the Livonia Public School District I was able to attain an internship position through the Career Intern Program. I was fortunate I could intern where I was interested in a possible career in accounting. For the entirety of my senior year, I was able to intern at SWAD & Company, a Certified Public Accountants and Management Consultants firm. Their website can be found here.

 

At SWAD & Company, I was able work with staff members in preparing financial statements, creating depreciation lists, initial and amended tax returns. I also worked on client specific questions as such tax codes in states other than Michigan. As a result I was exposed to researching tax laws and interpreting them.

 

I was also hired by SWAD & Company to work part time during the tax season to assist with data entry on individual tax returns outside of Internship hours. After my internship and additional hours during tax season, they decided to keep me on part time throughout my schooling at the University of Michigan - Dearborn.
